About James K. Reed
Mr. Reed was born and raised in Frostburg, Maryland. His father was a Maryland State Trooper and his mother was an elementary school teacher. He graduated from Frostburg State College in 1984 with a B.S. in Political Science, and received his J.D. in 1987 from the Dickinson School of Law, Carlisle, Pa. Mr. Reed has been licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania since 1987 and Maryland since 1990.
Upon graduation from law school, Mr. Reed was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the United States Army, Judge Advocate General's Corps. After completing the Judge Advocate General's School, Captain Reed was assigned to the Government Appellate Division of the United States Army Legal Services Agency, Washington, D.C. In this position, he briefed and argued appellate cases on behalf of the Government before the Court of Military Appeals. He remained in this position until August, 1990 when Captain Reed was reassigned by the Army to the United States Army War College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania. While assigned to the War College, he provided legal services to the Garrison, War College students, and active duty personnel who were deploying to the Middle East for Operation Desert Shield and Desert Storm.
In 1991, Mr. Reed joined the law firm of David C. Cleaver, P.C. located in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania. He remained with Mr. Cleaver until September, 1997 when he formed James K. Reed, PA in Hagerstown, Maryland. His areas of practice include divorce, custody, criminal defense, adoptions, appeals, personal injury and automobile accidents in Pennsylvania.
An avid outdoorsman, Mr. Reed has fly fished and hunted since childhood. He is a strong supporter of the Second Amendment and an active member of several conservation groups. He donates time to assist wounded warrior projects as well as veterans and their families.
